THE VINERY
HARTLAND KENT

Vinery front view

The owner of the property needed to clear out the existing boiler room of all the rubbish and rubble
to enable a new heating system to be installed. During a partial excavation to remove the
rubble
an old boiler and its pipework was uncovered, so a photographic record was then
taken as the rubble was removed. The following photos show how the boiler room rubble was
slowly cleared away to identify a historical engineering relic.

When any historical heating system is refurbished and updated, the first
and most likely item of equipment to be removed, replaced and then usually destroyed is the boiler.

It is therefore, a very rare occasion for the Heritage Group
to find or alternatively, be informed about any example of a James Keith sectional boiler. To date only two examples of a James Keith boiler have been discovered and photographed.
